April 17, 2017
Have you ever stopped to think about where you live and how much this area has to offer? Whether you live in the nation’s capital or just outside, this area has something for everyone. From nights in the city, to day trips to the shore, to great adventures at nearby parks and trails -- this town appeals to a variety of tastes and the amount of options and activities only increase as the weather heats up,
This spring and summer be sure to experience and embrace all that our beautiful city has to offer.
The City – Be sure to enjoy an iced coffee, tea or cocktail on an outdoor patio or rooftop bar this season. This time of year, the Georgetown Waterfront is buzzing with people and boaters alike. It's great time of year to try out Capital Bike Share and bike along the Potomac River and see the monuments. The city also has many boating companies that rent out paddle boards and kayaks by the hour. During the summer months, the Sculpture Garden is packed with people for its Jazz in the Garden and sangria. There are also many areas that participate in outdoor theater such as Screen on the Green on the National Mall, Strathmore also does an outdoor film festival, and this year the Drive-in at Union Market is back.
The Shore – Only a short drive away, you can experience the tranquility of the seashore in Annapolis or nearby beaches. Make a day of it, pick crabs on the dock and after walk around the historic town, or pack a picnic, bring the dog, and head to Quiet Waters Park for a relaxing day watching sailboats pass by. Other fun spots to check out include St. Michaels, Sandy Point State Park or Solomon’s Island in Southern MD. If you have a weekend to getaway, consider going to one of our nearby beaches in Ocean City, MD or Bethany Beach or Rehoboth in DE.
Parks & Trails – There are endless options when it comes to parks and trails in MD/DC/VA. If you are looking for something a bit low key to take in the great outdoors consider visiting the National Arboretum, Harpers Ferry, or Theodore Roosevelt Island would all be great options. If you are looking for a bit more adventure and a more strenuous hike, check out the Billy Goat Trail at Great Falls or Old Rag or Overall Run Falls in the Shenandoah National Park. Sugarloaf Mountain is also a go to for a quick hike and of course a wine tasting to finish out the day. To keep it simple and local Rock Creek Park and Sligo Creek are always good staples.
Farmer Markets – The farmer’s markets will be back in full swing with all of the wonderful local fruits and vegetables. These markets can be found all over the city. A great fun way to spend a few hours on the weekend to listen to live bands, and go home with some fresh flowers, a desert, and some deliciously grown local food.
So be sure to get excited for the good weather and get out there and have an adventure!
