So we’ve all heard it.

Be Prepared!

But our lives are busy and we say “I’ll get around to it” and we just don’t find the time.

Stop delaying and promise me that you will get one thing accomplished this month. Create your families “Important Documents Folder." This is so IMPORTANT!

It doesn't have to be complicated. It's simply a folder with a list of all your important information and copies of important documentation.

I recommend dividing your documents up into categories.

  • Voter Registration


  • Copy of recent credit report. You can get a free report every year.

  • Most Recent Tax Return

  • Bank Account(s) Information

  • Financial Portfolio Account(s) Information

  • Credit Card Account Information

Home Accounts

  • Mortgage (or rental agreement)

  • Utility companies and account information

  • Copy of your home warranty policy if you have one

  • Copy of homeowners Insurance

Other Account Information

  • Credit Card Accounts

  • Student Loans

  • Vehicle Loans or Leases

Health Information

  • Vital health information for each family member, including blood type, allergies, conditions

  • Shot Records


  • Health Insurance

  • Short- and Long-Term Disability Insurance

  • Life Insurance

  • Vehicle Insurance

  • Pet Insurance

Life Planning

  • Last Will & Testament

  • Living Trust

  • Health Care Power of Attorney

  • Advanced Directive
